Before designing anything, I study the product requirements, do some competitive
research and ask lots of questions. I also speak to engineering and architecture about
technical limitations. I looked at common design patterns in other security systems.
After all of my intel gathering, I began white boarding, sketching user flows and
presenting my ideas to the team.
The use of wireframes and user flows helped me understand a users entry point
within the app, taking them through a set of steps or goals that lead them towards
a successful outcome.
I hand crafted a set of iconography that were to be utilizedthroughout the Z1
platform. My main objectives was to ensure that all iconography was consistent
and reflective of the Zonoff brand.
In collaboration with other members of the Zonoff design team, we conceptualized
a dark UI treatment following the aesthetic of some competitor applications.
Working side by side with engineering, product and QA paid off. Along the way,
we ran into issues, but we iterated and were able to demo our efforts to our internal
stakeholders at the end of each sprint. Our customers were also satisfied with the
results as they QA’d the platform and had only minimal changes.
